Amy Redford is urging fans to be mindful of how they use AI when honouring her late father, Robert Redford.
In an emotional message shared on Instagram, she thanked friends, fans and colleagues for “the overwhelming love and support that has come by way of emails, texts, DM’s, snail mail, and sometimes drop on my doorstep since my Dad’s passing.”
But Amy said the family has also been confronted with fabricated AI content—something she called especially painful while they navigate their grief.
“There have been multiple AI versions of funerals, tributes, and quotes from members of my family that are fabrications,” she wrote.
“Renderings of my Dad who clearly has no say, and depictions of my family that do not represent anyone in a positive light are extra challenging during a difficult time. We are grieving together, and we are all in support of one another.”
She clarified that the family has not held a public funeral and is still “working out our plans for a memorial in the future.”
Amy added that every family deserves the space to mourn on their own terms: “Every family should have the ability to mourn, represent the person they lost, and pay homage in the way that fits their values and family culture best.”
While acknowledging that AI is now part of the landscape, she called for responsible use. “AI isn’t going anywhere. My hope is to keep AI in the land of transparent usage where it belongs,” she wrote.
“I simply ask, what if this was you? Let that be your guidepost. Let human authenticity live, inspire and be the connective tissue we all crave.”
Robert Redford is survived by his children Shauna, Amy, and the memory of Scott and James, who passed away years earlier. His influence continues to be honored across the industry.
